about

Arley Hall

Quite a lot of the time, surveys are undertaken in old derelict buildings in dire need of repair. Other times you’re asked to spend the day at one of Britain’s finest stately homes measuring up for a proposed refurbishment.

This job formed a collaborative effort with a north-west Architect, who was undertaking the design for a refurbishment. I was tasked with providing the survey and base drawings to allow for the design work to start.

The survey had its challenges, as the wonderful Tudor architecture, (a personal favourite of mine), meant the building had a lot of exposed timber trusses. The room itself leads to a mezzanine seating area, with toilets and a bar tucked beneath in the many nooks and crannies.

All in all, a very enjoyable project at a fantastic location, which successfully set the Architect off with their proposals.
